Time to Fertilize – Landscaping & Lawn Care

Early September is a good time to fertilize your lawn and other plants in your landscape.  First, you need to know what the three numbers mean on the fertilizer bag.  The first is nitrogen which promotes growth of greenery; the second is phosphorus which helps root growth; and the third is potassium which promotes cell function and helps plants absorb trace elements.  The landscape experts at BRS recommend using a product with a higher first number in early fall to help the grass recover from the hot summer.  In late fall, you should fertilize again using a product with a higher middle number to promote root growth to help the grass get through the winter.  Your perennials will benefit from a fertilizer with a higher phosphorus content now so they come back strong next spring.  Need more advice?  Give us a call here at Blass Residential Services.  Yep, we do that!
