Enjoy Cleaner Dishes

Want to get the most out of your dishwasher?  Here are some tips that’ll help you run it more efficiently and get your dishes cleaner.  The bottom rack should contain your plates and pans.  Put your dirtiest dishes in the center of the dishwasher to take advantage of the stronger jets of water.  The top rack should contain your bowls, glasses and plastic ware.  Make sure breakable items are not touching, or the dishwasher’s jostling could result in their breakage.  Silverware may not clean properly if the pieces ‘nest,’ so don’t put all your spoons or forks in the same baskets – mix them up to keep them from sticking together.  Never put good knives in the dishwasher because they’ll rub against each other and dull themselves.  Keep stainless and silver utensils in different baskets because if they touch, they could cause a chemical reaction that stains the silver.  Larger serving utensils can block the jets of water, so it’s best to lay them sideways in the top rack.  Though it’s good to clean off any left-over food from your plates and pans, you really don’t need to pre-rinse them if you have a newer dishwasher.  If your dishwasher leaves spots on your glasses, try putting white vinegar in the rinse reservoir for spotless dishes.  Occasionally, run your dishwasher empty with some baking soda sprinkled in the bottom and white vinegar in the rinse reservoir to keep your dishwasher clean and working efficiently.  Want more advice?  Give us a call here at Blass Residential Services.
