Ants Bugging You? – Home Improvement

This is the time of year when ants move inside looking for food.  Many ants treat your home like a drive-thru…they come in, get their food, and take it back to their nests to eat it.  But some ants will actually set up housekeeping in your home; and if they’re carpenter ants, beware.  Carpenter ants will actually tunnel into the wood in your home to build their nests, but they rarely damage sound wood.  They usually look for wet, rotted wood to invade.  So one of the best preventatives for carpenter ants is to fix leaking plumbing and roofs, seal exposed wood, and replace any rotting boards.  Also, make sure limbs from trees and bushes are not brushing against your house.  These give ants a pathway directly to your home.  If you have an infestation, use insecticide to destroy the nest, or try ant bait.  The ants will take this bait back to their nests where it will poison the colony, not just those who come out to look for food.  If you have further questions, we’d love to answer them here at BRS!
