Create A Rain Garden – Landscaping & Lawn Care

It’s no surprise if your lawn is squishy after all this rain, but if your yard doesn’t drain well and is perpetually wet, you might want to make the most of it and create a rain garden.  A rain garden is generally planted into a natural depression in your yard where there is usually standing water.  It lets you use this water as a natural resource instead of a nuisance.    Simply remove the sod, add some compost and plant flowers and shrubbery that are native to our area and thrive with lots of water.  Some examples that will provide stunning color are: iris, butterfly weed, cardinal flower, fox sedge, lobelia, joe-pye weed and spiderwort.  Consider the height and bloom times of the plants so your garden is colorful all year long.  Please note:  your rain garden should be at least 10′-20′ away from the foundation of your home to prevent seepage into your basement.  If you’d like more details, give us a call here at Blass Residential Services.  Yep, we do that!
