Avoid Frozen Pipes This Winter – Home Improvement

Did you know 250 gallons of water a day can spurt out of a 1/8″ crack in a pipe? That’s why it’s so important to take precautions to make sure your pipes don’t freeze and flood your house. First, disconnect all hoses from outside faucets; if water freezes in your hose, it will expand and could burst the faucet. You should also insulate all exposed pipes. Either pick up some heat tape or heat cables from your local hardware store, or you can wrap them with newspaper, which is not as effective, but will provide some degree of protection. Use caulk or insulation to seal leaks where the pipes enter your house. If you have a room that always gets cold, such as an outbuilding, let the water in the sink drip; moving water will help keep the pipes flowing clearly. If you need help with all this, or if the worst happens and your pipes crack and flood your home, please call us at Blass Residential Serivces and our licensed plumbing experts would be glad to help you.
