Keep Your Faucets Shiny-Home Improvement

Are your kitchen or bathroom faucets getting grimy and spotted?  Regular cleaning will keep them looking shiny and new for years.  Before you do anything, check the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning method.  Harsh chemicals and abrasives should generally be avoided when cleaning your faucets; and some faucets develop a natural patina with age which can be removed with improper cleaning.  If you’re unsure of whether a product is safe for your finish, test it on a hidden spot first.  In general, most faucets can be cleaned with regular dish soap mixed with water.  Use a cloth or sponge to wipe them clean, or a toothbrush to get into crevices – it’s best not to use a harder scrub brush.  A toothbrush is also great to get into the crack between the base of the faucet and the counter; and don’t forget to use your toothbrush on the part of the faucet where the water comes out.  There’s generally quite a bit of mineral build-up there.  If your faucet doesn’t come clean with regular soap & water, mix a 50/50 solution of water and vinegar and try again.   When you’re done cleaning, wipe dry to prevent water spots from forming.  For a little something extra, put baby oil on a cotton ball and rub it over the faucet.  You’ll be amazed at the shine!  Have serious plumbing problems?  Give us a call here at Blass Residential Serivces.  Our licenses plumbers will be glad to help you.
